Intimate Benefit for Just Like My Child on May 17, Supported by San Diego Philanthropists and Ensure Charity
Non-profit organization with mission to alleviate the suffering of women, children, and families in rural Uganda raises awareness through special event at private residence in La Jolla
WHAT:
Ensure Charity, an insurance services company that donates 50 percent of its gross revenues (commissions) to charities and non-profits, is supporting a special benefit gathering for Just like my Child, a non-profit organization founded by Vivian Glyck to alleviate the suffering of women, children, and families in rural Uganda.
Just like my Child's vision is to bring self-sustenance to 600,000 people in 48 communities by 2020. The organization uses an approach of deep development, which means empowering communities, village by village, to move towards self-reliance by creating their own long-term solutions to healthcare, education and microenterprise. The statistics on need are alarming:
- 25 million Africans (many of whom are children) are infected with the HIV virus. More than the Holocaust and the tsunamis.
- Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies of malaria - that's 3000 children EVERY DAY.
- 12 million children are already orphaned by AIDS.

About Just Like My Child
The Just Like My Child Foundation subscribes to a philosophy we call deep development, meaning that the organization focuses on one local area, or cluster of villages, at a time and address critical issues simultaneously: disease, poor nutrition, inadequate education, unsafe drinking water, poor infrastructure, and lack of economic development. The organization’s purpose is to empower communities by providing the infrastructure, support, and education that will enable sustainable, community-driven development. They are able to do this by embedding themselves in the community and fostering alliances with local change agents, creating connections between our donors and the families they impact, and always maintaining low overhead in order to make the greatest impact. The organization’s development occurs simultaneously in three areas: education, healthcare, and microenterprise. More information can be found at www.justlikemychild.org.
